This course provides the student an in depth knowledge of grading diamonds in accordance with international standards using various instruments. The 4Cs i.e. Carat, Colour, Clarity and Cut of the diamond are studied in detail to be able to achieve accurate grading. A balanced pedagogy of theory and practical gives the student a unique experience, clear understanding and confidence when dealing with diamonds. The course also covers distinguishing techniques between natural and synthetic lab made diamonds/simulants, as also diamonds subjected to various treatments.
The student is inducted into the fascinating, colourful world of gemstones by putting them through the theory and practical of coloured gemstone identification procedures. They learn about the journey of gemstones right from its formation to mining, cutting, polishing, wholesale and retail trade in the market. Sophisticated, state-of-the-art equipment is used in this process and at the end of the course the student is fully equipped to identify various gemstones of the world and distinguish between natural, synthetic and treated stones.
This comprises both Diamonds and Coloured Stone courses, if only one course is pursued i.e. either Diamonds or Coloured Stones, then a certificate is issued. If both courses are pursued then a Diploma in Gemology is awarded at the end of the course, provided the student passes in both i.e. theory and practical of both courses.
